Spain and Latin America

Does it matter where the Spanish speaker is from?

Slate has one Spanish setting, not separate options for Spain, Mexico or Argentina. Choose Spanish as the meeting language, or leave it on Auto Detect, and use it for any speaker.

If a recording mixes Spanish and English, pick the language most of it is in.

Interviews

Interviewed someone in Spanish for an English story?

Keep the Spanish transcript for exact quotes, and set the summary language to English to get the key points and action items in English. Search the transcript for a name or a word to jump to that moment in the recording.

Tell the person you're recording first; the recording consent guide explains why the rules differ from place to place.

Live

How do you follow Spanish live?

Start a live session on iPhone or Mac and Slate shows what's said in Spanish as text, together with a translation into the language you choose. It runs on any iPhone with iOS 18; see the live translator.

  • Translation appears as text; nothing is spoken aloud
  • Speaker labels on the live transcript
