Does Slate tell Brazilian and European Portuguese apart?
Slate has one Portuguese setting for both, with no separate option for Brazil or Portugal. Galician, which is close to Portuguese, has its own setting in the language list.
Interviewing sources in Portuguese?
Record on your iPhone, keep the Portuguese transcript for quotes, and set the summary language to English if your editors work in English. Searching the transcript for a name jumps straight to that part of the recording.
Ask the person before you start recording; the recording consent guide explains why.
Long recordings in Portuguese?
Have a long recording as an M4A, MP3 or WAV file, or a video? Import it into Slate and read the transcript and summary instead of listening to the whole thing again.
