Which companies process my audio in Slate?
Slate is built by Ravenna Tech UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Berlin. To turn speech into text, translations and summaries, Slate uses three outside services. Each one handles a different step:
| Service | What it does in Slate | When it is used |
|---|---|---|
| AssemblyAI | Speech-to-text for recordings, in 99 languages | When a recording is transcribed |
| Soniox | Live transcription and translation, in 60+ languages | While you follow a conversation live |
| Google Cloud | AI summaries, and storage of your recordings and notes | When a summary is made, and to keep your notes in sync between iPhone and Mac |
App analytics and advertising measurement are separate and are described in the privacy policy.
What happens to my audio while Slate is recording?
Recording itself works offline, on iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac. Transcription, translation and AI summaries need an internet connection, because they run on the services listed above.
Is my audio encrypted in Slate?
Yes. Slate encrypts recordings in transit and at rest in secure cloud storage.
What happens when I delete a recording in Slate?
You can permanently delete any recording, whenever you want. Deleting a recording in Slate also deletes the copy on our servers. To ask about any other data we hold about you, see your data rights below.
How does Slate for Mac record calls without a bot?
Slate for Mac records the call audio directly on your computer. No bot joins your Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Webex call, so no extra participant gets access to the meeting. It also means nobody else in the call is told that you are recording. Tell them yourself before you start: our recording consent guide explains why and how. For setup, see how to record Zoom meetings on a Mac.
How do I access or delete my data?
Ravenna Tech UG (haftungsbeschränkt) is responsible for your data in Slate. You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, and the privacy policy lists all of your rights under GDPR and California law. Email your request with the subject line "Privacy Request":
